The Owls Apprentice

This afternoon we had a lovely visit from Jenny Ellis who is a shadow puppeteer. She came to the school to deliver a show to us called "The Owl's Apprentice" the story of an owl who misses his family and has to go an adventure where he learns many different skills along the way. The students really enjoyed seeing the magic of the shadow puppets. After the show, Jenny even showed us some of the puppets that she used and talked about how you could make your own shadow puppets. It was fantastic and a great way to end a Wednesday afternoon.

The Surfing Scientist

On Tuesday before lunch, it was fantastic to have a special visitor to the school. Ruben Meerman the Surfing Scientist. While he was here he talked to us about lasers, colour, liquid nitrogen, temperatures and balloons. He was very engaging and it was very cool to see him make things explode using liquid nitrogen.

He showed us how it is possible to pop a balloon that is inside a balloon without bursting the outside one by using a laser. We learnt that lasers can be dangerous and need to be used adults who know what they are doing. We also learnt that liquid nitrogen needs to be handled carefully by an adult who knows how to use it.

It was a lot of fun and we all got a lot out of it.

BYRA Excursion

What an amazing week we have had, from sports carnivals to local area walks. It certainly has been a busy week and I am sure everyone is feeling it. Today was a fabulous day especially as we got to finish off with a walk down to BYRA (Bayview Yacht Racing Association). It was a lovely day and the walk did not take to long. When we arrived we had a seat in the shade and looked around at the different objects and places in the area. Using our practised mapping skills we began to create a map of the area imagining that we were birds looking down on the area from up above.
We then continued our exploration by splitting up into groups with an iPad each and take photos of different places within the are such as the swing set, the boats, the beach and even some trees.

Here are some of the photos that the students took whilst we were there.
