Measuring

Today in Maths we continued on with our learning of what measuring is and how we can measure items. So far we have discussed and seen how you can measure two objects if you bring them closer together (which we demonstrated using people within the classroom.

Now we are exploring the question "What if you can't move the two objects closer together?". This was a tricky question and we had a few good answers in response. The most popular being to use a measuring tape or a ruler. Which are excellent answers, however the next follow up question stumped us "What if we do not have a measuring tape? How can we see which of two objects is longer?"

This was a trickier question and one which we needed some help with. Mr. Donaldson suggested that we could use some plastic shapes to measure objects in the classroom. In pairs we were given some shapes (making sure they were all the same size and shape) and set about measuring some objects in the classroom.
