Dear Parents of KMD,
Welcome back to the final term of the year. I hope that the two-week holiday period has been a time to relax as a family and that everyone is refreshed and ready for Term 4. There are a variety of topics that we will be looking at throughout each of the Key Learning Areas and many skills will focused on in preparation for Year 1. Checking the Grammar News and the class blogs is the best way to keep up to date with classroom and school information. Below are some keys dates for this term:
- Musica Viva: Da Vinci’s Apprentice – 25th October, Week 2
- Year 6 Big Breaky – 7th November, Week 4
- Mufti Day + Christmas Carols and Carnival: 23 November, Week 6
- K-2 Intensive Swimming Program 26-30 November inclusive, Week 7
- C-2 Celebration Assembly: 5 December, Week 8
- Class Party Day (K-2 Term 4 concludes): 10 December, Week 9
The class blogs also offer a ‘window into the classroom’ and, along with Seesaw, will allow you to engage with your child’s learning. If you do not yet have access to your child’s Seesaw account, please contact me so that we can work towards getting you connected.
In Science we will be looking at the objects within the school environment and, by using our senses, will determine what materials were used to make the object. We will be looking at the variety of materials, explore why certain materials were chosen for particular objects and the purpose they fulfil.
During English and History, we will be focusing on Celebrations such as birthdays, Christmas and other popular celebrations from around the world. We will compare how these celebrations differ between each other as well as how they are observed in different cultures.
News will continue this term with the roster being emailed home during Week 1. The topics for this term are as follows: Free Choice, International Celebration, and ‘This year, I have enjoyed’. The email detailing News will also include short descriptions to help you work together with your child in order for them to be best prepared for their presentation.
As a reminder that students will wear their summer uniform (Tuesday-Thursday) during Term 4. On Monday and Friday, they are to wear their sports uniform - coloured house shirt on Monday and white sports shirt on Friday. Also as a reminder, full school uniform means that students wear hats when arriving at and leaving school each day. Sun hats are required each day for outdoor play.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me via the school office (bayviewoffice@stlukes.nsw.edu.au) if you have any queries.
Kind regards,
Matthew Donaldson
