After our parents left we spent the rest of the morning learning about our classroom and some of the routines that will take place throughout the week. After this discussion we moved into a reading lesson where we talked about what a sentence is, how it starts (with a capital letter), and how it finishes (with a full stop). Once the students had a basic understanding they went exploring!!! Their first port of call was our library as a source for all things 'words'.
In pairs the students chose a book and began the search for the elusive sentences....as it turns out there are sentences everywhere!!

At Morning Tea Time we moved down to the valley early to find a place to sit and eat while the rest of the school made their way down at the regular time. After Morning Tea we came back to the classroom for out first Mathematics lesson. Our goal for this lesson was to practice reading and writing the numbers between 0-20. First by rolling a dice and copying the number down onto our own whiteboard...

...then by working with a partner to sort numbered milk bottle lids into the correct order. This was tricky in certain parts but with more practice we will be able to make progress.

Our word for the day was 'Collaborative' where we focused on being a Collaborative class that works together to solve a problem. The students showed that they were able to do this throughout the day and I am very proud of them.
